Ride to Lake Geneva, Saturday 7/7, 9:30 AM
July 7, 2018
9:30 am

The weather is supposed to be a little cooler this Saturday. Also, County
Highway "H" to Lake Geneva is "closed" for construction. Let's take
advantage of the opportunity to enjoy a ride to Lake Geneva.

We'll meet at the library on the south side of Richmond (Illinois) and ride
the Prairie Trail (limestone) to Genoa City (Wisconsin). There we'll ride
County Highway "H" to Lake Geneva. We'll visit the waterfront and walk our
bikes through the tourist district. I plan a lunch stop at Culver's and
we'll return to our starting spot.

County Highway "H" is currently "closed" to thru traffic. There are 10 foot
gravel sections about every half mile where they have placed new drainage
culverts under the road. Karen and I took a bike ride on the highway today
and had no problems. There are occasional vehicles on the road, but most of
the time we had the highway to ourselves.

Where: Nippersink Library, 5418 Hill Rd, Richmond
When: Saturday, July 7, 9:30 AM (Please arrive 15 minutes early to prepare
and sign in)
What: 25 mile ride to Lake Geneva and back
How: Casual speed, no one left behind

To get to Nippersink Library: Take either US 12 or Rt 31 north towards
Richmond. Hill Rd is on the south side of town. The library is a couple
hundred yards down the road to the right. It is about an hour from
Schaumburg.

If you prefer a shorter distance, or would like to skip the section of the
ride on the limestone trail in Illinois, you can meet us at Veterans Park in
Genoa City at 9:45 AM. The park is across the street from the village
offices (755 Fellows Rd, Genoa City, WI.) From there you'll have a 20 mile
ride to Lake Geneva and back. To get to Veterans Park continue on US 12
into Wisconsin, but do not get on the divided highway. Follow County
Highway "H" into Genoa City. At the stop sign in town turn left on Freeman
St, then right on Main St. Turn right on Fellows Rd to the park on the
right. About 10 minutes past the library in Richmond.

If you would like a longer ride, you can choose another starting point along
the Prairie Path and meet us in Richmond. Starting from Peterson Park in
Richmond would give you a 40 mile ride; starting at Glacial Park would give
you a 30 mile ride, etc.

County Highway "H" is in the open with little shade. Temperature is
expected to be about 80 degrees.

Let me know if you're coming and where you will be starting so I don't leave
without you.
