Ride to Fermi Lab and Beyond-Wednesday
June 7, 2017
9:30 am

will start at Bennett Park in St. Charles riding the Fox River Trail and Illinois Prairie Path and various side streets and some side walks during which we will visit the buffalo at Fermi Lab and continue beyond through Wheaton and West Chicago looping back to Bennett Park. This is approximately 30 miles and since a good part of the ride is on limestone, I definitely will not be setting any speed records. Last time I rode, there was not a restroom at Bennett but there are some not far from our start and restrooms and outhouses along the trails. There are not a lot of spots to get water and snacks. I definitely recommend bringing a more substantial snack than you normally would. We will have breaks as needed with a longer one at Blackwell Forest Preserve which is about halfway through the ride. Late lunch in Geneva is planned for after the ride place to be determined, possibly the rooftop deck at Old Towne Pub & Eatery. Hope to see you there! Lori 847-602-0661

Starting Location:
DIRECTIONS to Bennett Park. Take North Ave (Route 64) west to St Charles. You'll pass the Charlestowne Mall then cross Dunham Rd and Tyler Rd. At the traffic light at 7th Ave move into the left lane. Turn left on 5th Ave (Route 25) and proceed south. In a very short block you'll cross Illinois Ave (traffic light) and proceed to the stop sign at the foot of the hill. The Fox River will be directly in front of you. Stay to the left along the river and pass Langum Park (on your left). Shortly after you pass Langum Park, watch for Bennett Park on your right - you'll be turning right into the parking area. If you reach the traffic light at Route 38 in Geneva (State St/Roosevelt Rd), you've gone about 200 yards too far.
