White River Trail - Elkhorn, WI
Slow and Easy Bike Ride
Saturday 31 July 2010 at 9:00 AM

We will bicycle on this scenic flat trail though the cornfields of Southern Wisconsin.

The 12-mile White River (limestone) Trail is built upon a former railroad line (so it is flat) that traveled (east-west) between Elkhorn and Burlington Wisconsin. This tree lined trail passes over numerous bridges, and has scenic vistas of quiet farmlands and small towns. Mid-trail (in Springfield, WI) there is an old train depot that has been converted into a cute coffee shop (Pedal and Cup)... we will be stopping there.

Ride Distance: 25 Miles.
Ride Pace: Slow 8 to 12 MPH.
Trail Type: Crushed Limestone

Bike Ride Start Location:
Elkhorn, WI - Trail Head
About a 60 mile (2-hour) drive From Schaumburg
Take Schaumburg road west to Barrington road.
Take Barrington Road north... turns into Route 59.
Take Route 59 north to Route 12.
Take Route 12 North-West ... into Wisconsin ... and then to the town of Elkhorn, WI
=====
You will pass though the towns of Fox Lake, ILL and Richmond, IL.
Note: In Richmond, ILL Route 12 makes a Right turn (North) ... then crosses into Wisconsin.
You will also drive by (near) Lake Geneva, WI.
======
EXIT Route 12 at Wisconsin County Highway NN.
Go West (left turn) on NN (towards Elkhorn) ... to Highway H.
Go South (left turn) on H ... go about 0.6 miles to the Trail Head... a small parking lot.
====

IMPORTANT NOTE: There are NO restrooms at the bicycle-trail-head. I advise taking Highway NN - H about 1 mile into the town of Elkhorn. There is a Burger King and Gas Station in town at the Highway 67 Junction. Mid-Bicycle-Trail at the Pedal and Cup Depot there is a restroom.

===============
Note: The time 9:00 AM is when we start peddling.
Please arrive about 15 Minutes before this to check-in and prepare for the bike ride.
