North Branch Trail of Chicago River, from Harms Woods, to the Botanic Garden. Approximately 18 miles, round trip. If anyone wants a longer ride, you can ride south from Harms Woods...whatever distance you want. Mostly flat except for overpasses. Casual ride, no one left behind.
In the past, we could enter the Botanic Gardens via the south entrance, and there was no fee to go to the main building, cafeteria and gardens. Things have changed so that, while we can still enter the Botanic Gardens property, we can't go to the main building where the cafeteria is, along with the entrance to many of the gardens...unless we have a membership. We can still access the science building (air conditioned with rest rooms). We can also walk through some gardens on the south side of the campus. And we can ride our bikes to a sheltered area that makes for a nice spot to eat whatever snacks or lunch you bring with you. Bring a lock for your bike.
Please arrive 15 minutes early to prepare.
Reminders: Helmets are expected safety gear. Bike must be in reasonable condition. Guests are welcome to join us for one ride but are expected to join the club for additional rides (insurance requirements). Fountains may be disabled so bring enough water. Please carry emergency contact info.
