Des Plaines River Trail - Lake County
July 10, 2021
9 AM

Join us on Saturday, July 10 for a ride on the very pleasant Des Plaines River Trail. We'll start near the Wisconsin border and ride south to Rt 120 and return, a 26 mile ride. You may choose to ride an extra 3 miles to Independence Grove.

This trail is a very high quality limestone trail. It is wide and well maintained. There are some brief shady sections. It is not a rail trail but the only significant hills are under and over passes. We'll start at the Russell Road entrance for Van Patten Woods Preserve. There are vault toilets available there. There are also vault toilets available at the planned turn-around point at RT 120 (and also further at Independence Grove). I don't know whether water fountains have been turned on.

The trail is well marked so it is easy to ride at your own pace or turn
around sooner if you prefer.

Rain is possible so ride will be canceled by 7:00 am if weather looks poor.

Casual ride. No one left behind.

Reminders: Helmets are expected safety gear. Bike must be in reasonable condition. Guests are welcome to join us for one ride but are expected to join the club for additional rides (insurance requirements). Fountains may be disabled so bring enough water.

Starting Location:
Van Patten Forest Preserve (15601 Russell Rd, Wadsworth, IL) Entrance says "Horse Trailer Parking". I-90 east to I-294 North to I-94 North. Exit Russell Road, make
a right and Preserve entrance is about 1/2 mile on the right.

Distance: 26 miles
Average Speed: 10-12 mph
Leader: Wayne (heinmiller.il@prodigy.net)
