CANCELED - Des Plaines River Trail
June 26, 2021
9 AM

CANCELED due to wet forecast.

Join us on Saturday, June 26 for a ride on the very pleasant Des Plaines River Trail. We'll start near the Wisconsin border and ride south to Rt 120 and return, a 26 mile ride. You may choose to ride an extra 3 miles to Independence Grove.

This trail is a very high quality limestone trail. It is wide and well
maintained. There are some brief shady sections. It is not a rail trail but the only significant hills are under and over passes. We'll start at the Russell Road entrance for Van Patten Woods Preserve. There are vault toilets available there. There are also vault toilets available at the planned turn-around point at RT 120 (and also further at Independence Grove). I don't know whether water fountains have been turned on.

The trail is well marked so it is easy to ride at your own pace or turn
around sooner if you prefer.

Please arrive 15 minutes early to prepare.

Casual ride. No one left behind.

Forecast includes rain. Cancellation will be posted by 7 AM on Saturday morning if rain threatens.

Reminders: Helmets are expected safety gear. Bike must be in reasonable condition. Guests are welcome to join us for one ride but are expected to join the club for additional rides (insurance requirements). Bring a mask to use restrooms. We'll practice appropriate social distancing when not riding. Fountains will probably be disabled so bring enough water.

Starting Location:
Van Patten Forest Preserve (15601 Russell Rd, Wadsworth, IL) I-294 North to I-94 North. Exit Russell Road, make a right and Preserve entrance is about 1/2 mile on the right. About 1 hour from Schaumburg. This route has tolls.

Distance: 26 miles
Average Speed: 10-12 mph
Leader: Wayne (heinmiller.il@prodigy.net)
