Millennium Trail (Wauconda)
May 29, 2021
9 AM

Join us to enjoy the Millennium Trail near Wauconda on
Saturday, May 29 at 9 AM.

The Millennium Trail is a good quality crushed limestone to Singing Hills, and is paved from there to Marl Flats where we'll turn around. (ComEd work has the trail closed until July past Marl Flats.) Much of it runs through Lake County Forest Preserves. It is not a rail trail. It is mostly flat with some gently rolling hills and one or two moderate hills. It is mostly open with a couple of shady spots to stop for a break. The weather is expected to be milder (mid-50's in the morning) so an open trail and sunshine should be OK.

We'll ride about 10 miles out and back (total ~20 miles). (You can always turn around at Singing Hills for about 13 miles, or sooner if you prefer.) We'll ride at a casual speed with no one left behind.

If you want some extra miles the Fort Hill Trail leaves from the parking lot to Ray's Lake.

Reminders: Helmets are expected safety gear. Bike must be in reasonable condition. Guests are welcome to join us for one ride but are expected to join the club for additional rides (insurance requirements). Bring a mask to use restrooms. We'll practice appropriate social distancing when not riding. Fountains will probably be disabled so bring enough water.

Starting Location:
Lakewood Forest Preserve Winter Sports Area (24069 W Ivanhoe Rd, Wauconda?) : Take Barrington Road/Rt 59 north to Wauconda. Go right/east on Route 176/Liberty St, then right/south on Fairfield/V61. You will see a sign for the
winter sports area of Lakewood Preserve on the left at Ivanhoe Rd. (Don't be fooled by the main Lakewood entrance on Rt 176.) We'll meet at the parking lot for the winter sports area.

Distance: 20 miles
Average Speed: 10-12 mph
